Dr. Mikao Usui, or Usui Sensei  is the founder of the Usui System of Reiki. Reiki can be interpreted as “spiritually guided life force energy”.  The term Rei can be translated as “ Spirit or Higher Power or Divine Wisdom” and Ki is “Life Force Energy”. Reiki is a Japanese holistic approach for promoting healing, stress reduction and relaxation.

The “Laying on Hands” is the methodology utilized for channelling energy and no physical massaging is necessary since Ki flows through us. Furthermore, the Reiki Healer is able to draw upon universal energy and transmit universal love through the healing session.

Reiki Healers acknowledge that diseases or illness are generated by disruption and/or disequilibrium of Ki. This is an agreeable factor as people are more likely to get sick when their "life force energy" is low, feeling stressed or spiritually weak/ill. It is important to understand lack of balance effects homeostasis which in turn has an effect on the systems of the body and the healing process. Life and overall health is different when there is balance.

The opposite can also be seen as truth which is a high “life force energy” is a constituent of being happy and healthier. Reiki can be used as an added alternative to provide continuity of healing a variety of health ailments and definitely a beneficial factor in the of care process.
