Automated
External Defibrillation (AED)
This course is designed
according to the guidelines of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The
course was taught to targeted responders/ Health Care Providers. A targeted responder is any person who,
as part of their job description as a professional primary health care provider
or a professional first responder, has the duty to a medical emergency. However,
due to the increase of AED's in public access. It now opened to the general
public.
This course will aid in
learning how to safely use an AED with adult or Child victim experiencing a cardiac arrest. Defibrillation is the delivery of a shock to the
heart through electrode pads. Its purpose is to allow the heart to return to its
normal rhythm with a pulse. By combining your CPR skills with your AED skills,
you will strengthen your already vital role in increasing the chances of
survival for cardiac arrest victims.
Some Topics covered in
this course include history of AED, Anatomy and electrophysiology of the heart,
ECG interpretation. AED sequence and maintenance. As well as chain of survival.
Most Students can do
this course in combination with Adult CPR or First Aid. However, all students wanting to
Learn AED must be certified in Adult CPR within the last year , to qualify for
enrollment.
